Idio-tech

Robin’s customized and circuit-bent Elgam Match 15c drum machine dating from 197x, AKA “Idio”, has featured on probably every ISAN track since 199x, our secret weapon (of sorts).

Idio is included (in various modes) in our sample pack, available from our pals at Intimate Noise : https://intimatenoise.com/sample-pack/isan-pond-skating/

Fact Top 100 IDM Tracks

We have to confess to feeling mighty chuffed about making it onto this list, not least because of the luminaries we seem to be holding company with. Thanks to John Twells and Joe Muggs, also for reminding us of a ton of stuff we need to dig out of our respective crates to listen to!

“Isan are one of those quiet acts, not one of the first most people would name, but whose sounds were actually kind of ubiquitous back in the day. Like Plone, the Essex duo were on the hairslides-and-satchels indietronica side of things, aligned with bands like Piano Magic, Seefeel and The Notwist more than with Aphex and Squarepusher – but the rippling loveliness of their tracks has a very special kind of bedroom-Eno high-tech tranquility. They’re still going, and were even seen remixing Clouds on Deep Medi back in 2010.”

And yes, we are definitely still going!

Descette Interview

To coincide with the digital release of Descette, Italian Webzine Dance Like Shaquille O’Neal invited us to talk about how we recorded the EP. For a little window into our inner workings, you can read all about it here in Italian and English.

Arterial Film Soundtrack

We’ve provided the soundtrack for a short film called Arterial. It’s filmed in Essex, in that strange hinterland between the rural and the industrial, which, by coincidence, is where Robin lives.

It’s still in post-production but you can see the trailer and keep up with news here.

Calm, Cosy

Well it’s been a very nice, calm 2011 for us – hope it has been for you too.  It hasn’t been a hugely busy year for us – but it’s had its fair share of excitement with a trip to Rio and the Eastside releases on Keshhhhhh. We almost had another special release out this year too, but a few technical problems have delayed that until 2012 – more news on that soon!

In the meantime, we’d like to wish you calm and cosy time this Christmas – here are a couple of old favourites we’d like to share with you:

Silent Night (2003) by isan

Peace on Earth – Errollyn Wallen – Isan Remix by isan

Thanks a million and see you in 2012!
